Women’s Health Psychology

Welcome to Women’s Health Psychology. We are a team of clinical psychologists and therapists working with adults, healthcare professionals, and organisations online and in person in the North East of England.

Women’s Health Psychology was co-founded by Lainey Fraser and Suzanne Kearney. Between us, we have nearly 50 years of experience as mental health clinicians. We developed and ran the Health Service Journal award winning NHS service, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Health Psychology which was the first of its kind nationally and has gone on to be the blueprint for the North East & North Cumbria Maternal Mental Health Service development framework. Obstetrics and Gynaecology Health Psychology pioneered gold standard care for people experiencing distress related to pregnancy, birth, and pregnancy loss.

It was also unique in its provision of integrated psychological and medical treatment for people experiencing gynaecological conditions, including sexual pain.

These experiences led to the development of Women’s Health Psychology. Our passion lies in supporting women to navigate being a woman through the lifespan.

We know that relationships, making fertility choices, the beginning, middle and end of our reproductive years, intimacy, loss, and maintaining a positive sense of self can result in anxiety, worry, trauma, and complex emotions.

We offer the knowledge, skills and experience that we gained in co-creating a service with our patients within a hospital setting to women, couples and services who wish to access support and intervention away from universal healthcare.

Note about language: Across this website, the terms ‘women’/ ‘woman’ are used to refer to any person who identifies as such.
